Morgan County Released Inmates

A Morgan County release means the agency that held the person has ended that custody event. For most local arrests, the key agency is the Morgan County Sheriff's Office jail operation in Decatur. The Sheriff's jail supports law-enforcement agencies across Morgan County, so Decatur, Hartselle, Priceville, Falkville, Somerville, Eva, and other local arrests often route into the same jail record after booking. Once the jail releases a person, the person may drop from the current roster and may appear only in the short release view, a court case, a VINE event, or a records response.

The word released can mean several different things. A person may post bond, finish a short jail sentence, leave under a court order, be released after dismissal, move to probation, transfer to ADOC, move to another county, go to federal custody, or leave local custody on an ICE matter. Only some of those outcomes are a release to the community. A transfer ends Morgan County Jail custody, but it does not mean the person is free from custody. Question: Does disappearance from the current roster prove release? No. It may mean release, transfer, data timing, a name mismatch, or a restricted record. Use the release view and the matching agency record before treating a roster absence as final.

Morgan County Release Record Fields

A Morgan County jail release record is a custody-status record. It is not a full criminal history and it does not decide guilt. The public roster family can show a booking card when records are present, and the released endpoint is the visible short-window version. The Sheriff's own roster disclaimer says the jail provides the information for public convenience but does not certify accuracy or authenticity through the website. Treat the web record as a lead, then verify formal details with the jail record, the court case, VINE, or the receiving agency.

For a state-prison release, the field set changes. ADOC defines fields such as Minimum Release Date, Good Time Received, Good Time Revoked, Jail Credit, Parole Consideration Date, Parole Status, Sentence Date, Time Served, Total Term, and Type. Those fields belong to the state sentence calculation, not to the Morgan County Jail 48-hour feed.

Request Morgan County Release Records

Older Morgan County released inmates often require the Sheriff's public-record request process. The Sheriff's instructions cite Alabama Code sections 36-12-40 and 36-12-41 and require a completed request form delivered to the Sheriff's Office, Attn: Admin Captain, at 119 Lee St, Decatur, AL 35601. The instructions say phone and fax requests are not accepted. The minimum processing fee is $25.00 by cashier's check or money order, with the first labor hour included, added labor listed at $23.00 per hour, and black-and-white pages listed at $1.00 per page.

1. Identify the person, booking date, booking number if known, and the Morgan County Jail release date range.
2. Ask for the booking record and release record for that booking, including release date, release type or transfer note if maintained and public, charge list, bond fields, and booking photo if needed.
3. Complete the Sheriff's public-record request form and hand deliver it with the required cashier's check or money order.
4. Wait for the office to locate the record and estimate any final production cost.
5. Use the court record or receiving-agency record if the release was tied to ADOC, federal custody, ICE, or another county.

Morgan County Release Record Law

Alabama's public-record starting point is Ala. Code Title 36, Chapter 12, Article 3. Public access is subject to exceptions, redactions, confidentiality rules, agency procedure, and court orders. A jail booking date or release date may be available while juvenile details, sealed records, expunged records, medical material, active-investigation material, victim-identifying information, protected identifiers, or other exempt details may be withheld.

Expungement starts in Ala. Code Title 15, Chapter 27. If a case is sealed, expunged, or otherwise restricted by court action, public access to the booking or release record may change. A page in the roster going blank should not be read as an expungement order. It may simply mean the 48-hour display has rolled forward.

Morgan County Bond Release Timing

The Sheriff's bonds page gives a local reason why a Morgan County release can appear before the court file looks complete. It explains that Alabama courts generally use the Alabama Supreme Court bail schedule under Rule 7.2, and that an officer books a defendant, swears an affidavit before a magistrate, and sends paperwork to Circuit Clerk Chris Priest's office for case-number assignment. That timing gap matters for Morgan County released inmates. A bond-out may show in the jail release source while the court record is still catching up. ADOC Search for Morgan Releases

Use it to see whether a person is still in state custody and to read fields before release. Morgan County's official recent-release source is not a 24-hour or 72-hour archive. The roster chooser says the 48 Hour Release option shows all persons released from the Morgan County Jail within the last 48 hours. The endpoint is the Sheriff's released roster view. Morgan Release Notifications

Morgan County Jail participates in VINE. The Sheriff's VINE page says the service can provide custody-status information and automatic notices when a person is released, transferred, or escapes. The page lists VINE phone 1-877-846-3425 and links to VINELink. VINE is useful for alerts, but it is not a certified release packet. Pair a notification with the jail record, court record, or receiving-agency record when formal proof is needed.

Alabama VNS is a separate state layer for offenders convicted in Alabama and sentenced to prison. It is not the right tool for a pretrial county-jail case that has not gone to trial. Federal and immigration releases follow separate tracks. BOP's locator covers federal inmates from 1982 forward and displays release-date information. USMS custody depends on federal court and detention routing. ICE custody uses ICE locator and immigration court tools, and a Morgan County Jail release can be only a transfer to ICE.

The Morgan County Jail corrections page describes an inmate worker program, a work-release program, and a partnership with the Neighborhood Christian Center located near the jail. These facts are useful for local reentry navigation, but they are not release proof. A person in work release may still be under jail authority. Final release still needs a release date, court order, VINE custody event, or official record.

The same corrections source says only inmates charged with non-violent, minimal offenses can apply for the inmate worker program. That is a program eligibility fact, not a public release list.
