Find Municipal Release Records

To find someone released after a Morgan County municipal arrest, first determine whether the person was booked into Morgan County Jail. Municipal custody may begin with Decatur, Hartselle, Priceville, Falkville, Somerville, Eva, or another local agency, but the county jail houses many people arrested in the county. A release may appear in the county jail release feed only if the person reached jail booking. If there was no county booking, court and agency records become the better route.

Morgan County Municipal Releases

Municipal arrest research has one extra step: identify the custody handoff. The Sheriff's 2024 recap says the Morgan County Jail supports all law-enforcement agencies in Morgan County by holding individuals arrested in the county. That means a person arrested by a city or town agency may have a Morgan County Jail booking record if the person was taken to the jail. If so, the jail's 48-hour release view, jail phone, VINE participation, and Sheriff public-record request are the local release route.

Some municipal events do not create a county jail release record. A person may be cited, summoned, or released before jail booking. In that case, the Sheriff's roster may never show the person. The stronger trail may be a municipal court case, district court case, arresting-agency incident record, bond paperwork, or later Circuit Clerk record. Do not infer that no jail roster entry means no arrest or no court case.

Check Morgan County Jail First

When a municipal arrest led to county booking, the official online starting point is the Morgan County roster chooser. The county publishes a 48-hour release option for people released from Morgan County Jail. The research found no separate official 24-hour-only or 72-hour-only county jail feed. The feed is useful for recent releases, but it is not a long-term record archive.

  1. Search the 48-hour release view by name.
  2. Match booking number, booking date, charges, bond, and release date.
  3. Check the current roster if the person does not appear in the release view.
  4. Use VINE if a custody notification was registered for the jail booking.
  5. Use court records or a Sheriff records request when the feed has expired.

The Morgan County released inmates search path should be used when the municipal arrest becomes a county jail, court, state, or federal custody question. A local arrest can move quickly between agencies, so each record should be tied to the agency that held the person at that stage.

Morgan County Court Follow-Up

Court records are often the durable record after a municipal arrest. The Morgan County Circuit Clerk site provides local court information and a records-request route. Alacourt Access provides Alabama trial court record searches by name and case number. The court trail can show case number, charge, bond order, disposition, sentence, probation order, future court settings, and warrant actions.

Bond releases deserve special care in Morgan County. The Sheriff's bond page explains that an officer books a defendant, appears before a magistrate to swear an affidavit and obtain a warrant, and sends paperwork to the Circuit Clerk for case-number assignment. It also says some defendants make bail before paperwork reaches the courthouse. That local workflow can explain why a jail release appears before the court file looks complete.

Municipal Release Records Contact

If there was a county jail booking, use the Sheriff's records process. If there was no county booking, contact the arresting municipal agency or the court tied to the citation or charge. For county jail records, the Sheriff's public-record instructions require hand delivery to the Sheriff's Office, Attn: Admin Captain, and reject phone or fax requests.

Main phone: 256-351-4800
Jail phone: 256-351-4825
Non-emergency dispatch: 256-350-4613

Ask for the specific booking and release record when the person was booked into jail. For a municipal case with no jail booking, ask the court or arresting agency for the incident, citation, bond, or disposition record that applies. A narrow request is more likely to reach the right custodian.

VINE Limits for Municipal Arrests

Morgan County Jail participates in VINE, but VINE follows the jail custody feed. It can help with release, transfer, or escape notifications after a person has been booked into the jail. It may not help when a person was released by a municipal agency before jail booking or handled by citation only. In those cases, court records and arresting-agency records are more useful.

For state-prison, federal, or ICE custody after a municipal arrest, use the right outside system. ADOC is for Alabama state prison custody, BOP is for sentenced federal prisoners, USMS handles many federal pretrial custody events, and ICE handles civil immigration custody. A Morgan County Jail release card does not prove final release from those systems.

Municipal cases also need careful name and date matching. The jail roster, court portal, and arresting agency may not display the same identifiers. A citation may use a municipal case number, while a jail booking uses a booking number, and an Alabama court case may use a different court number. Matching the date, charge, arresting agency, and court level helps keep a municipal release from being confused with a county jail transfer or a state sentence.

Note: The missing county jail record may mean no jail booking, not a sealed final answer.

Morgan County Jail Context

The county jail's central role is why municipal-arrest pages still point back to the Sheriff release feed when a booking occurred. The jail opened in 2006, the annex expansion was completed in 2016, and the facility can now house up to 994 inmates. The Sheriff's 2024 recap reported 7,582 bookings and 7,583 releases, showing how many local agency arrests can flow through the county jail record system.

Morgan County Release Record Trail

Every facility or custody-system page has to be read against the same Morgan County record trail. The first question is whether the person was actually booked into Morgan County Jail. If the person was booked locally, the Sheriff release view, VINE participation, jail phone, and public-record request process are the local sources. If the person was cited, summoned, or released before a county jail booking, the jail release feed may never show the person. In that situation, the better record may be the arresting agency file, the Morgan County District or Circuit Court case, or the municipal-court path for that charge.

For a local jail booking, the online release display is short. Morgan County documents a 48-hour release view, not a permanent public archive. Older release proof usually requires a tighter request: the named person, booking date, booking number if known, release date range, charge list, bond fields, transfer notation, and booking photo if the photo is needed. The Sheriff public-record instructions require hand delivery to the Admin Captain at 119 Lee St, Decatur, AL 35601, reject phone and fax requests, and list a .00 minimum processing fee by cashier's check or money order. That fee structure should be checked before visiting because the office can estimate final production cost after it reviews the request.

The court record fills a different gap. Jail records can show that custody ended for a booking, while the court file can show bond orders, warrant recalls, disposition, sentence, probation, jail credit, dismissal, acquittal, or later modification. Morgan County Circuit Clerk records and Alacourt Access are useful when the reason for release matters. If the release involved a state sentence, ADOC records, ABPP supervision sources, and Alabama VNS become part of the trail. If the release involved federal custody, the BOP locator, USMS custody path, federal court, ICE locator, or immigration court tools may be needed. A county jail release and a state, federal, or ICE release are related only when the records connect them.

Note: A transfer can end Morgan County custody without releasing the person to the community.

Match the Release Record

A Morgan County release check should match more than a name. Names can be misspelled, shortened, or shared by more than one person. Use the booking number, booking date, release date, charge text, bond field, court case number, AIS number, federal register number, A-Number, or supervision office record when those details are available from the correct source. The Morgan County roster family can expose booking cards with name, booking number, booking date, release date, charges, bond, photo, and profile links when records are present. ADOC uses AIS as the strongest state-prison search key. BOP and ICE use their own identifiers. Court records can connect the custody event to the charge and disposition.

Keep each source in its lane. The jail record proves the local custody event. The court record explains what happened to the case. ADOC, ABPP, VNS, BOP, USMS, and ICE records answer state, supervision, federal, or immigration questions. When two sources disagree, use the originating agency for the record being questioned instead of treating a roster, locator, or notification as a final certificate.
